This year’s Best Brew Challenge was, once again, a huge success. 58 brewers from all around the globe accepted the challenge on 23 June 2016.
The conditions:
- Mash in simultaneously at 2pm CET
- Use at least 5% finest BEST Special X®
- Original Gravity must be between 11-14°P
39 beers reached us in time to be tasted and evaluated by an international tasting panel, consisting of beer sommeliers, brewers and external professionals.
We were very impressed by the large number of highly creative beers we were privileged to try. The fantasy of our brewers is unlimited and you could feel the constant urge to create new, extraordinary and tasty beers.
Most participants came from Germany, but there was a significantly increased number of participants from abroad, particularly from Lithuania and Brazil.
The decision wasn’t easy but we chose an amazing beer to be our winner beer 2016! Maxim Boldyrev and his “Hopsbrew” crew from Ljubljana, Slovenia created an extraordinary Rye IPA. Golden in color with an intense aroma of citrus fruits, grapes and herbs. A smooth and slick mouthfeel with a strong impact of a malty caramel aroma as well as floral, herbal and spicy notes. Wonderful!!
