#BestBrewChallenge 2019: Let’s celebrate!

International brewing competition in the year of Palatia Malz GmbH’s 120th anniversary

There are plenty of occasions to celebrate during the BestBrewChallenge 2019: Firstly, the fifth edition of the international brewing competition kicks off on German Beer Day on 23 April 2019. Secondly, Palatia Malz GmbH, producer of BESTMALZ quality malts and organizer of the contest, is celebrating its 120thanniversary this year! This time the challenge for all participating breweries, craft and home brewers as well as pub breweries from all around the world is: Brew a Festbier style beer! All participants will benefit from the in-depth feedback of a professional sommelier. And the main prize is a celebration as well!

Brewing simultaneously on German Beer Day

As a special feature of this contest, brewers meet virtually around the world to brew their competition beer according to the challenge guidelines. The media as well as all beer enthusiasts will be able to follow this simultaneous brew online and on social media via a live transmission. This year, participants have been asked to brew a Festbier style beer in accordance with the German Purity Law using from 1 to 10 percent of BEST Caramel®Munich II. This malt has an EBC of 120 – thus matching our anniversary – and blends almond and breadcrust aromas with a subtle, roasted flavor.

Want to join the fun? Creative brewers can register online at www.bestbrewchallenge.com. Brewing will start on 23 April 2019 at 2 pm CEST. The closing date for sending us your beer samples is 30 June 2019. After that, an independent jury of international beer sommeliers will taste and evaluate all submissions and give their individual feedback.

To celebrate its 120thanniversary, Palatia Malz GmbH is awarding a very special prize this year: The winning brewer will receive a BESTMALZ base malt of his or her choice for one year, free of charge (up to max. 120 bags, each 25 kgs, corresponding to 3 tons of malt!). The award ceremony will take place this fall, when Palatia Malz will be inaugurating a new warehouse and logistics facility for its malthouse in Wallertheim near Mainz with a celebration of its 120thanniversary.

All participants can look forward to individual feedback from the sommeliers and a beautiful t-shirt. The top three winners will receive a professional beer analysis by a specialist laboratory in addition to the jury’s evaluation. A special prize will be awarded for the most creative video on the BestBrewChallenge.
