About the challenge

April 14, 2015

Hi there,

First of all, we are very excited to enter in this challenge and we wish good luck to everyone!
I have some questions about the challenge, I hope someone could clarify this for me:

1) The participants have to film the all brewing at their own site in live continuos or can we film just some parts of it? I’m thinking using a web site for this, we can post here the link and people can follow or there’s a specific web address to post?

2) We have full liberty regarding mash time(s), decotations and so on? From what I get there’s only one condition, 25% Best Red X, am I right?

Lets do this!
Best regards,
Pedro Vilares

Hi Pedro, 1) Filming is optional, but would be fun. We will post a Google-Hangout-Session on Wednesday, thus people can watch live our mashing. Further videos can be used as record proof and shall be uploaded on Youtube. We'll create a channel for this event. 2) Yes, another condition is 12-14°P original gravity and only malt, hops, water & yeast according to German "Reinheitsgebot". Best, Brian

  2. That Beer Place

Brian, Do witnesses have to be there from mash-in until brew hits the fermenter? Or just for the mash-in? We are having difficulties finding people to show up at 1am in the morning. But if they have to be there for hours, chances are even slimmer of finding anybody... Cheers, Bettina

Hi Bettina, I fully understand his. This is a unique world record attempt and experience is limited. According to GWR regulations, the witness testifies the participation by a final signature. We'll provide the form for his later that day. There you'll see that the witness will describe what he/she has seen. Best regards, Brian

Hi Brian, Could the witness be also the other participant in the GWR? There are two of us taking part in this event and we both would like to be in the GWR. Or would it be best to have a 3 party there to video and photograph our event??

According to the expections of GWR, the witnesses should be independent from the event organizer, which you are. On the other hand they shall be experts in their field or play an important role in the community (a judge, notary or newspaper editor seems to be a reliable source). However, I do see the other brewer as an expert and not necessarily a contradiction. I would say, that it should be the assistant brewer, if available, thus you don't have a participant being counted by a witnessing participant. Best, Brian
